One of the best things about the return of nice weather is the ability to share my great music with the rest of the world. Even in this era of tiny earbud headphones, there is something special, something summer-y and cool, about driving while listening to a great song, and there is something even special-er and summer-er about doing that with the windows down.
Of course, not just ANY song is a Windows Down song. You’ve got to choose right, here. Pull up at a stoplight with your windows down and Air Supply’s “I’m All Out Of Love” cranked up and you’re liable to be laughed out of the cool guy’s club.
Problem is, I’m a 43-year-old guy. I don’t KNOW what’s cool anymore. I mean, I typed that paragraph and then went and tried to download the Air Supply record. That’s why it’s great that Kia Rio and Spotify are here to help me find and play cool songs with their "Best Songs with your Windows Down" playlist.
The playlist is designed to help you, and me, and everyone, play some DECENT music for once. No more listening to Bach at crosswalks, no more having to worry about getting Debbie Gibson inflicted on you in a traffic jam: With help from Kia Rio and Spotify, we’ll all be cool and all be sharing the best songs this summer.
Here’s how: on Spotify, they’ve created an addable of sorts that you can access through Facebook, too. That’s how I did it: I went to Facebook and typed in the coolest song I know:
And then added my name and email and voila! (As our Founding Fathers would say), it was there. (Actually, it had to be approved, but you get the point.)
It couldn’t be simpler for you to do the same: click the Facebook link:
Type your name and email, submit your song. Then view the playlist in Spotify to see what other people are telling you you should listen to. You may have to download Spotify, but come on, you’ve already downloaded Spotify, right? If not, you’re behind even ME.
And while you’re there, give a listen to “Common People.” It combines the two greatest forces of coolness known to mankind: Rock music, and William Shatner, and as an added bonus, you’ll be able to sing along with it. You know, ‘cause it’s William Shatner. And because it has cool guitars. Well, you can’t sign along with those. But you can AIR GUITAR, provided you do so while you’re standing still. Or use the hands-free app on your air guitar. They have those, right?
So there you go: listen to my song, and pick your own and add it – and leave a comment telling me what you added or would add and why. I’d like to know how to be more cooler. (Then again, when you say “43 year old guy playing air guitar to William Shatner” it’s hard to get more cooler than that.)
For those of you who are tired of reading with your eyes, here’s a video that helps explain:
