We Were At A Party... (250=1)

We Were At A Party

It’s not as if there’ s anything wrong, at least not at first, well, provided you never really think about it, things are fine.

Which is sad! Suddenly out of the blue things are only fine if you don’t stop to wonder whether they are fine.

I actually think that thought, and I look up from whatever stupid story Tom is telling, and I… I mean,

I mean, it’s just.

It’s just.

I don’t even know what Tom is fucking talking about? I look up and realize I am looking for her, and I see her and we just stare at each other.

I can’t look away first.
When We Decided To Quit

I mean, what the fuck is this supposed to be?

He, first, he won’t talk to me, hardly, on the way over here, and I have been trying to talk to him for months let alone that night.

Then we get here and he’s almost immediately off, I don’t know hardly anyone, I’ve still got my coat on.

One time, one time, when we first began dating, he didn’t have a coat on and we had to walk a really long time to get from the parking space he found to the restaurant and he spent the entire time pretending he wasn’t cold, at all but when he talked his teeth  chattered.

That happens and other things happen and suddenly he’s looking at me across a room.

I can’t look away first.

In 250=1, I write stories that are exactly 250 words long, including the title. Here's a list of links to all of them I've ever written.
